It took me some time to write this review of the Mach X. But I also ran a lot with the shoe.

First Impression

The Hoka Mach X in “Ocean Mist / Lime Glow” goes well in the summer – even if I honestly had to get used to the color scheme. Meanwhile, I find him but really chic and wear him very much.

The cushioning looks very substantial, as is typical for Hoka. You stand on 39 millimeters at the heel, which decreases by 5 mm towards the forefoot. This is a geometry that I like very much.

In the midsole made of PEBA and EVA foam, the Mach X also hides a plate made of PEBAX. This super foam is intended to provide even greater rebound and thus better propulsion.

An additional outsole made of abrasion-resistant rubber protects the midsole of the Hoka Mach X. It is applied over a large area, but does not have much of a profile.

The mesh upper is made of recycled fibers and adapts well to the foot. A good padded tongue and a comfortable heel area make the Mach X a pleasant companion.

With 599 grams for both shoes in my size, the Hoka still falls into the lightweight category – according to my weight classes. That fits pretty well for such a well-cushioned shoe that is also to be worn in competition.

Running Experience

The Hoka Mach X and I: that was love at first step. The fit and comfort were very good as soon as I slipped them on. And the first casual running sessions have only confirmed the positive impression.

That’s mainly because the shoe has relatively soft cushioning, but it doesn’t swallow the energy, but can release it again. I attribute this to the PEBAX plate in the midsole.

Probably the plate also leads to the convincingly good properties during faster runs and intervals. Despite the comfort, I always had the feeling of having a fast shoe on my foot that supports me at pace.

Conclusion

Hoka Mach X
Love it!
The Hoka Mach X has quickly become one of my favorite shoes - in training and in competitions. The shoe simply handles everything and always shows a good figure - except for wet asphalt. But that is already my only criticism.

Hi! It’s me, the Harlerunner.

This is where Thomas Pier writes about running and (much more than just the necessary) equipment. I don't run particularly fast or far. But I like to share my experiences as an ambitious recreational runner, curious early-adopter and as my own trainer.

I am happy about every digital contacting - but even more so about every kilometer run together.
