First Impression

The windbreaker from Soar has been an important staple piece for me for years and is only not used in summer. With the new Advanced Windbreaker, Soar has (once again) made a very good piece of clothing even better.

It starts with the material: in the new version, the windbreaker has become slightly thicker and the construction has also been adjusted slightly. For example, there is a longer zipper at the front. Of course, the body-hugging cut remains to prevent the wind from attacking too much.

The fabric is very densely woven and feels pleasantly soft on the outside and inside. In the Soar lineup, it can be found under the long-sleeved tops and not in the jackets, as the Advanced Windbreaker can and should be worn next to the skin. Alternatively, you can wear a thin layer underneath when it gets colder. However, you should not underestimate how much warmth the windbreaker provides!

The minimalist design of the Soar Advanced Windbreaker also includes laser-cut hems, flat seams and reflective applications. As with the previous model, there is a small, slanted pocket on the back, which is probably intended for keys and gloves rather than a cell phone.

Running Experience

My first exciting realization while running: despite the material feeling thicker, the range of use of the Windbreaker has not changed. Even in milder temperatures, I didn’t feel like I was overheating in it. At the same time, a thin longsleeve underneath was enough to run comfortably at the frost line.

As expected, the top performs very well in its main discipline, namely keeping the wind out. The material is so tightly woven that nothing can actually get through. This also applies to rain to a certain extent – even if the Advanced Windbreaker is not made for it. However, it didn’t show any weaknesses during an hour of drizzle. Only when the rain gets heavier does the material start to soak through and it can get cold in the wind in some places.

Conclusion

Soar Advanced Windbreaker
The better is the enemy of the good
No question: with the Advanced Windbreaker, Soar has once again succeeded in creating an update that is absolutely convincing in terms of functionality, comfort and design. I'm not so sure about the price premium of 100 euros compared to the previous model...

Hi! It’s me, the Harlerunner.

This is where Thomas Pier writes about running and (much more than just the necessary) equipment. I don't run particularly fast or far. But I like to share my experiences as an ambitious recreational runner, curious early-adopter and as my own trainer.

I am happy about every digital contacting - but even more so about every kilometer run together.
